General Description
The SDS-PAGE Gel Fixing solution is useful in fixing the pre-stain proteins in the gels, suitable for SDS-PAGE gels. Proteins require fixing into the gel for analytical purposes so that they do not leach out following electrophoresis and the protein bands are sharper and well resolved.
The fixing of proteins in polyacrylamide gels prevents the diffusion of the proteins, thus keeping protein bands sharp and correctly resolved, and washes away running buffer components that may interfere with other downstream applications, such as staining. The process of protein fixation in polyacrylamide gels denatures and precipitates the proteins into large insoluble aggregates within the gel matrix. It also removes the SDS present in the SDS-PAGE buffer, which would interfere with protein staining and other downstream applications.
